NMDOH NUPAC
SMOKE FREE SIGNALS

For eight years, Keres has been the lead provider of secondhand smoke protections in Native American Communities. Through this work we have met with every Native American community in NM including the 19 Pueblos, 50 Navajo Nation Chapters, the Mescalero Apache Tribe, and Jicarilla Apache Nation. We provide policy support, educational presentations, technical assistance, mini-grants, and more.

Traditional Tobacco Education & Awareness campaign

Keres designed numerous Tribally focused designs and imagery that are in an ongoing effort to share awareness of the sacred use of traditional tobacco and the harms of commercial tobacco. The designs were printed on stickers, notebooks, posters, shirts, and other educational material. All items were shared with Tribal communities,  health representatives, school health programs, and other Tribal programs.

Traditional Tobacco Mass-Reach
Health Communication intervention campaign

To continue the progress and effort of educating and sharing awareness of the traditional use of tobacco, SFS has implemented a mass-reach health communication intervention campaign. The purpose of the campaign is to spread awareness about the sacred use of traditional tobacco as a protective factor and the danger of commercial tobacco use and secondhand smoke, while recognizing the cultural continuance of New Mexico Indigenous communities.
